Try Weik.io

Try Weik.io on your machine

Getting started 1 · 3:02

The whole Weik.io platform runs in a dev container on your own machine, opened from a GitHub repository and ready for a first sign-in to the admin UI. You need Docker and Visual Studio Code with the Dev Containers extension.

What it covers

  • What the machine needs, from Docker with 8 GB of memory to a free port 8580
  • The Dev Containers button on the try-weikio repository, which opens it in Visual Studio Code
  • The first start, and the Docker volume that keeps the platform's data across restarts
  • The project sandbox, the environment devtest and the agent dev that the weikio CLI uses by default
  • Checking the signed-in admin and each process with weikio whoami and weikio-dev status
  • The admin's first sign-in at http://localhost:8580, after setting a password through weikio-dev ui-link

Commands in this video

Transcript
  1. 0:02This video shows how to try Weik.io on your machine.
  2. 0:08Your machine needs Docker with 8 GB memory, 4 CPUs, 20 GB free disk,
  3. 0:15VS Code with the Dev Containers extension, Chrome, port 8580 free.
  4. 0:22Weik.io runs in a dev container.
  5. 0:28The repository is try-weikio on GitHub.
  6. 0:34The Dev Containers button opens the repository in VS Code as a dev container.
  7. 0:40Chrome asks you to open VS Code.
  8. 0:47VS Code starts the container, then runs the setup.
  9. 0:50The first start takes a few minutes while Docker builds the image.
  10. 0:54Each step prints a line, ending with Weikio ready.
  11. 0:58Every process of the platform runs inside one container.
  12. 1:02The platform's data lives in a Docker volume that survives a restart.
  13. 1:06VS Code forwards port 8580 to your machine,
  14. 1:11so the admin UI and API are available there.
  15. 1:17The Weik.io CLI is signed in as the platform admin.
  16. 1:22The first start created project sandbox, environment devtest and agent dev,
  17. 1:29so the CLI works there by default.
  18. 1:31weikio whoami prints the signed-in user and its grants.
  19. 1:40weikio-dev status prints one row per process, each up with its check ok.
  20. 1:46The admin UI and API are at localhost:8580.
  21. 1:56The admin's first sign-in needs a password,
  22. 1:59so weikio-dev ui-link prints a link that sets it.
  23. 2:04The link works once.
  24. 2:05Open the link in your browser, set the password,
  25. 2:08and sign in at localhost:8580 as admin@local.
  26. 2:17Nothing is deployed to devtest yet, so agent dev has nothing running.
  27. 2:23The commands to try next all work on the integration hello.
  28. 2:27weikio init hello creates the integration in the hello folder inside the repository.
  29. 2:37The repository button started VS Code,
  30. 2:40which built the container that runs the platform.
  31. 2:43The volume keeps the platform's data across restarts.
  32. 2:47The admin UI is open at localhost:8580 in your browser.
